Summary View
Overview
The Summary View provides a table-based overview of a loaded Apollo scenario. It answers two practical questions:
- What does this scenario contain?
- How did the objects in the scenario perform overall?
Unlike the chart viewers, Summary View does not display a chart. It does not have an X axis, Y axis, zoom controls, tooltips, or a chart type. Instead, it presents the scenario information followed by one or more summary tables, with one table for each applicable object type. Each row represents an object, while each column contains a performance metric taken from the scenario's output data.
The available tables and columns depend on the object/collection selected and on the output files generated for the scenario. Different scenarios may therefore show different columns.
What the Summary View Contains
The Summary View is organized into three main areas:
- Scenario Info — information about the loaded scenario.
- Column-group controls — controls for showing and hiding categories of metrics.
- Summary tables — object-level results organized by object type.
The view can also switch into Raw Data mode through the Create button in the Chart Toolbar.
Scenario Info
The Scenario Info card appears at the top of the Summary View and provides metadata about the selected scenario.
The card is compact by default. Click Show More to expand it and view the additional fields, including technical parameters and remarks.
The information shown is scenario metadata such as:
- Scenario name
- Run date
- Scenario settings
- Technical parameters
- Remarks
The Summary View does not calculate these values as chart statistics. The metric values shown in the tables come directly from the scenario's output CSV files.
Data Categories
Summary View organizes columns using three documented column groups. All three groups are enabled by default.
Price & Energy
The Price & Energy group contains price-related and energy-related results.
Depending on the scenario output, this can include values such as:
| Metric / Data Group | Description |
|---|---|
| Price averages | Average price values reported by the scenario output. |
| Energy totals | Energy-related totals reported for the applicable object. |
| Demand | Demand-related result columns when provided by the scenario. |
| Generation | Generation-related result columns when provided by the scenario. |
The exact columns are not fixed for every scenario. They are derived from the output files produced by the scenario run.
Operation
The Operation group contains operational metrics.
Examples documented for this group include:
| Metric / Data Group | Description |
|---|---|
| Run Hours | Number of hours the applicable object operated. |
| Starts | Number of starts recorded for the applicable object. |
| Other operational metrics | Additional operational columns may appear depending on the scenario output. |
Because the Summary View derives its columns from the scenario output files, an operational metric may be present in one scenario and absent in another.
Cost
The Cost group contains financial results.
Examples documented for this group include:
| Metric / Data Group | Description |
|---|---|
| Revenue | Revenue reported by the scenario output. |
| Cost | Cost reported by the scenario output. |
| Profit | Profit-related result reported by the scenario output. |
The source documentation does not establish a fixed universal set of individual cost columns beyond the documented Revenue, Cost, and Profit grouping, so the actual table columns should be read from the loaded scenario.
The original Summary View draft listed fixed metrics such as Installed Capacity, Net Energy, Fuel Consumption, CO₂ Emissions, Availability Factor, Capacity Factor, Load Factor, Fixed Costs, and Variable Costs. Those exact fields are not established as universal Summary View columns by the supplied reference guides, so they should not be presented as guaranteed columns unless the running application or scenario output confirms them.
Column-Group Controls
The Summary View has a sticky control bar with three column-group chips:
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Price & Energy | Shows or hides price-average and energy-related columns. |
| Operation | Shows or hides operational columns such as run hours and starts. |
| Cost | Shows or hides revenue, cost, and profit columns. |
All three groups are enabled when Summary View opens.
Clicking a group chip hides or shows that entire category of columns across all visible summary tables at the same time.
Example
Suppose the Summary View contains Site, Unit, and Region tables and you only want to review operational performance.
- Leave Operation enabled.
- Click Price & Energy to hide its columns.
- Click Cost to hide financial columns.
- The visible tables now focus on the operational metrics available in the scenario.
The controls affect column visibility; they do not change the underlying scenario data.
Table Visibility Controls
In addition to column groups, Summary View provides controls for showing and hiding complete object-type tables.
There is one visibility chip for each applicable object type, for example:
- Site
- Unit
- Region
- Load
- and other object types present in the loaded scenario.
Show or Hide a Table
Click an object-type chip to hide or show that table.
This is useful when the Summary View contains many tables and you only want to work with the object types relevant to your analysis.
All and None
The All and None controls provide a quick way to manage every table-visibility chip at once.
- All — shows all available object-type tables.
- None — hides all object-type tables.
Right-Clicking a Table Chip
Right-clicking a table-visibility chip does not hide the table. Instead, it scrolls the page directly to that table.
This is useful when the Summary View contains many tables and you need to jump to a specific section quickly.
Site Location Filter
When the Site table is visible and contains data, an additional row of location chips is available.
These chips filter the Site table rows to a particular location or region.
The Site location filters are shown only when:
- the Site table is currently visible; and
- the Site table contains data.
They are therefore contextual rather than a permanent filter control.
Example
If the Site table contains sites across several regions, select the relevant location chip to reduce the visible rows to that location.
This makes it easier to review Site-level results without hiding the entire Site table.
Navigating to the Summary View
The documented way to access Summary View is through the Viewer Bar / view switcher.
Summary View opens automatically for certain collection or object selections, including:
- collection nodes such as Links, Groups, Portfolios, and Participants;
- object types that do not have a dedicated chart viewer, such as Meter, Generator, and Portfolio in the documented Summary routing.
You can also switch to Summary directly from another viewer using the Summary option in the view switcher above the chart area.
The original draft stated: “To open Summary View, right click a scenario from the Scenario Tree View then choose Load Summary.” That workflow is not stated in the supplied Summary Viewer reference. The documented route is through the view switcher and automatic routing for supported collection/object selections, so the right-click instruction should not be retained unless it is verified in the running application.
How to Use Summary View
A typical Summary View workflow is:
1. Load or select a scenario
Open the scenario you want to analyze and make sure it is the active scenario.
The Summary View displays results for the active scenario.
2. Open Summary
Select Summary from the Viewer Bar, or arrive at Summary automatically by selecting a collection/object for which Summary is the applicable viewer.
3. Review Scenario Info
Start with the Scenario Info card to confirm that you are looking at the intended scenario.
Use Show More when you need the complete metadata, technical parameters, or remarks.
4. Choose the metric groups
Use:
- Price & Energy
- Operation
- Cost
to show only the categories of columns you need.
5. Choose the object tables
Use the object-type chips to display only the tables you want to analyze.
For example, you may choose to keep Site and Unit visible while hiding other tables.
6. Filter Sites when required
When applicable, use the Site location chips to narrow the Site table to a particular location or region.
7. Review the table values
Each table contains one row per object and columns containing the available scenario metrics.
8. Export a table when needed
Each object-type table provides its own Export CSV button in the table header.
The export downloads the rows of that table as CSV.
Summary Tables
Summary View is entirely table-based. There is no chart, chart legend, or chart series to customize.
Each object-type table follows the general structure:
| Area | Description |
|---|---|
| Rows | Individual objects of the applicable type. |
| Columns | Performance metrics supplied by the scenario output. |
| Column groups | Price & Energy, Operation, and Cost controls determine which groups are visible. |
| Export CSV | Downloads the table's currently available rows as CSV. |
The exact table set depends on the selected collection/object and scenario.
The exact column set also depends on the output files generated by the scenario. This means users should not assume that every scenario will contain exactly the same fields.
Raw Data Mode
Summary View provides a Create button in the Chart Toolbar that switches the viewer into Raw Data mode.
Normal Summary Mode
The normal mode displays:
- Scenario Info;
- column-group controls;
- object-type table controls;
- summary tables.
Raw Data Mode
When Create is activated:
- the summary tables are hidden;
- the viewer switches to a Raw Data explorer;
- the underlying scenario data can be inspected in table form.
Click Create again to return to the normal Summary View.
The Create button is specific to Summary View and is hidden in the other dashboard viewers.
Use normal Summary View when you want a high-level, object-by-object overview. Use Raw Data mode when you need to inspect the underlying tabular data rather than the summarized presentation.
Exporting Summary Data
Each object-type summary table has its own Export CSV button.
Use this when you need the rows from a particular table outside Apollo.
The export is table-specific rather than a chart export because Summary View contains no chart.
The chart Export menu described for chart viewers is not available in Summary View. Summary uses the table-level Export CSV control instead.
Historical Database Error Warning
Summary View also acts as an entry point to historical database error reporting.
If the scenario's HistDBErr.csv file contains records, Summary View displays a yellow warning banner:
Historical Database errors detected
The banner lists the detected error types and their counts.
A View Historical Database action in the banner takes you directly to the Historical Database View, where the individual error records can be inspected.
Why This Matters
A scenario can contain otherwise usable output while still reporting problems encountered when reading historical generation or market data.
The warning gives you a direct indication that the scenario contains such records without requiring you to inspect the error file manually.
For detailed error investigation, use the Historical Database View.
What Summary View Does Not Provide
Because Summary View is a table viewer, the following chart controls are not available:
| Control | Summary View |
|---|---|
| X axis | Not applicable |
| Y axis | Not applicable |
| Date picker | Hidden |
| D / W / M / A | Hidden |
| Previous / Next period | Hidden |
| Zoom | Hidden |
| Start at Zero | Hidden |
| Freeze Y Axes | Hidden |
| Axis Labels | Hidden |
| Tooltip mode | Hidden |
| Chart Export menu | Hidden |
| Reset Series Visibility | Hidden |
| Object comparison | Hidden |
| Create / Raw Data | Available |
This is expected behavior. Summary View does not render a chart or time-series series.
Understanding What Changes When You Navigate
Selecting a Different Object or Collection
Selecting a different collection node replaces the set of summary tables with the tables appropriate to that selection.
The object selection therefore determines what the Summary View contains.
Changing Column Groups
Changing the Price & Energy, Operation, or Cost chips changes which columns are visible, not the underlying scenario results.
Changing Table Visibility
Changing the table-visibility chips changes which tables are visible, not the data stored in those tables.
Loading a Different Scenario
Loading a different scenario replaces the Summary View data with the newly active scenario's output.
The table and column set may therefore differ between scenarios.
Common Tasks
I only want to see operational results
- Keep Operation enabled.
- Disable Price & Energy.
- Disable Cost.
- Keep only the object-type tables you need visible.
I only need Site results
- Show the Site table.
- Hide other object-type tables using their chips.
- If the Site table contains location filters, select the relevant location.
- Use Export CSV if you need to work with the Site data externally.
I need to inspect all object tables
- Click All in the table-visibility controls.
- Use the column-group chips to determine which metric categories are visible.
- Scroll through each object-type table.
- Use individual table Export CSV buttons when needed.
I need the underlying data instead of the summary
- Open Summary View.
- Click Create.
- Review the Raw Data explorer.
- Click Create again to return to Summary View.
I see a Historical Database error warning
- Read the error types and counts shown in the yellow banner.
- Click View Historical Database.
- Review the individual error-type tables.
- Export the relevant error table if needed.
Important Limits and Gotchas
The Summary View does not guarantee one universal column set. The available columns come from the scenario's output CSV files, so a column present in one scenario may be absent in another.
- Summary View is a table viewer; there is no chart or series to configure.
- The D/W/M/A time controls are hidden because Summary has no time axis.
- The chart Export menu is hidden; use each table's Export CSV button instead.
- The Create button is available only in Summary View and toggles Raw Data mode.
- Table visibility and column-group controls change the presentation only; they do not remove data from the scenario.
- Site location filters appear only when the Site table is visible and contains data.
- Right-clicking a table chip scrolls to that table rather than hiding it.
- The Historical Database warning appears when
HistDBErr.csvcontains records. - The Summary Viewer does not calculate a chart stat bar; displayed metric values are taken directly from scenario output CSVs.
